About the project
The team wanted to celebrate the detail that goes into the car, through a series of macro shots. That gave us a lot of space to play.
We built the base from Foley, recording buttons and car mechanics. The opening was the trickiest moment: you approach the car and quickly realise it’s coming apart. To make that believable, we used longer, slower, drawn-out versions of car sounds you already know, like the hydraulic door and boot, valves and knocked panels.
There are lots of small moments I’m proud of. For the stitching of the seat, a constant cloth and leather movement sits with a rope pull, all three layers run through Tremolator together to match the pace of the sewing animation. The camera then passes from inside the car to outside through the glass, carried by the atmos opening up, a stereo whip and a glossy whoosh. As we push in on the deep, lustrous finish of Lexus’s Sonic paint, we leaned into that depth with sub impacts and shimmering granular effects.
